ReCreation Runway 1:20 working prototype
Photographed by Tony Sernack
ReCreation began as a visual merchandising venture for a hair design business undergoing a process of
re-branding and evolved as an investigation into the socio-cultural ritual of hairdressing.
There is more to hairdressing than the oft’ assumed vanity of an individual. These works explore the relationship of an intimate space (the body) and public performance (the visible).
A part of a larger investigation into the notion of ‘hair dressing’ from Prehistoric times through to now.
The Performance begins with a spot-light on single figure ‘dropping’ in to the ‘womb’, fading in and out to the sound of
a heart beat. The dancers enter in nude suits -naked as we came- and emerge with the body adornment as they shed their old/ grow a new ‘skin’. The figures come out from the incubator like form as “Recreated” beings of the new branding.
